Schauspielhaus

The Schauspielhaus was extensively greened with a 2,750 m² roof area.

To ensure proper drainage, drainage mats were first installed to channel excess water. Above this, a substrate layer was applied, serving as the nutrient base for the greenery. Following this, “vegetation mats” made of moss and sedum, a ground-covering succulent plant, were rolled out—similar to the principle of a rolled lawn. Additionally, gravel strips were placed along the entire attic and in front of the rising facades to support the system’s stability and function.

The Optigrün lightweight roof system makes it possible to integrate green spaces even on older buildings without extra structural reserves or large industrial roofs, offering a practical and sustainable solution for urban greening.
