With the Aralandia project, the Zoo-Verein Wuppertal e.V. created a free-flight aviary covering almost 1,100 m² and reaching up to 10 meters in height. The extraordinary arch construction of Aralandia, featuring steel arches over 30 meters long, is a true eye-catcher. Its architecture is inspired by the shape of a bird’s wing and also serves as a tribute to the historical aviary that once stood on the same site.
The aviary was landscaped with plants, climbing structures and perches for the birds, as well as a water area for flamingos and a stream. The surrounding vegetation was preserved and used as a backdrop, providing a naturalistic environment for the birds.
